1-2-1, and online Academy

  • All dogs attending in-person training must have shown proof of vaccination in advance. This requirement is for the safety of your dog and other dogs that may attend, if group sessions are being undertaken.

  • Any dog faeces passed during 1-2-1 sessions will be the responsibility of the guardian (aka handler, owner, parent) to pick and dispose of in the sanitary bins provided or take home with them to safely dispose of.

  • Dogs must never be left alone in cars whilst at the training centre.

  • We are unable to facilitate a second dog attending with you for group classes.

  • Two spaces on a course may be booked and handled by separate people but it is not appropriate to bring two dogs with you and either, attempt to work with both at ones, or work with only one dog, leaving the other unsupervised.

  • At all times dogs should be kept on lead and away from contact with other people and dogs whilst on the premises unless explicitly told otherwise by a representative of Pawsitive Pups Dog Training. If your dog or another dog is reacting (barking, pulling on the lead or trying to move away) then please increase the distance between yourself and the other dog.

  • For sessions at local secure fields, car parking is often public, therefore it is imperative that all dogs are kept on a lead until safely in your car.

Photography

  • During training we may take photographs or videos of dogs learning and family members may be captured in these photos. These are to be used in both educational and promotional materials. By agreeing to our terms and conditions you give consent for Positive Pups Dog Training to use these materials as stated above including on social media and on our website.

  • We will not use photos with children in unless agreed with their parents/guardians.

Dog training tools and toys

  • All tools we use follow our positive reinforcement and force-free ethical standpoint.

  • We do not support, use, condone, or advertise the use of aversive tools in our training methods including, but not limited to: slip leads, shock collars, spray cans, pet correctors, prong collars, noise producing devices, force and fear.

Veterinary Behaviour/Clinical Behaviour Referrals

  • If, during our work together, we believe that it is necessary to refer a dog to a qualified, certified, behaviourist, we will do so only with the dog guardian’s express consent.

  • Any referral will be made only to suitably qualified professionals, experienced in the use of force-free methods of behaviour modification with dogs.

Group Classes

Booking

  • Booking – Full payment to be made at the time of booking, to secure your place on the course, workshop, seminar or other group activity. Bookings can be made from our website, or online forms, or a direct bank transfer can be arranged, following the issue of our invoice. Once a group class has begun no refund is available, as your place can no longer be filled.

  • We will send written confirmation of booking via email if you provide us with one. Including start time and dates of each class or if purchased through our website this will be on your welcome email.

  • One week’s notification to cancel a group class booking, is required for a refund, a £10 admin fee will be applied.

Attending

  • Our group dog training classes consist of a set number of sessions, depending on the skill(s) being taught, and we encourage attendance at all classes in the course.

  • We understand that personal commitments or illness may prevent attendance at a particular session. In such cases, you will receive notes for the missed week, but no partial refund will be issued.

  • It is not possible to catch up on missed weeks, at a later point.

  • Family members

    • We encourage at least one family member to attend training, along with the guardian, if possible. The more members on board with training the faster your dog will learn.

    • Children are welcome but remain the responsibility of the accompanying adult.

    • If a child’s behaviour disrupts the class or poses difficulties for any of the dogs, we may request their removal. Thus, we recommend at least two adults attend if bringing young children.

    • Please notify us in advance (24 hours), if you will be attending with children.

  • Classes are for guardians who wish to progress their dogs’ training and life-skills.

  • You must not knowingly book a dog who is reactive to dogs or people onto group training.

  • If you have any questions over class suitability for your dog please talk to us. We can advise or do an assessment prior to class.

  • Positive off lead interactions can be a fantastic learning experience for dogs. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee a suitable mix in each class for this to always be possible.

  • On lead greetings are detrimental to some dogs’ progress, so please do not allow your dog to greet others when on lead, unless expressly asked to do so.

Individual Training (1-2-1)

  • Bookings for individual sessions will be confirmed via email, or WhatsApp, when agreed.

  • Full payment must be made, no later than 48 hours prior to the session, to confirm your booking, unless otherwise agreed via payment plan.

  • Multiple dogs from the same family can attend a single session, provided there are an equal number of handlers, to dogs but only the dog named on the booking will be allowed to take part in training. One handler is required to be present for each dog and training can be limited with less exercises covered whilst working with multiple dogs.

  • If purchasing a bulk block of sessions to receive discount, full payment must be made prior to the first session, unless otherwise agreed with the trainer (on behalf of Pawsitive Pups Dog Training).

  • Sessions cannot later be extended following an assessment only booking, to gain discount on the first, unless previously offered by the trainer at Pawsitive Pups Dog Training.

  • Travel costs may apply to each appointment where we travel to meet you, and the location is out-with the Scottish Central Belt (Central Glasgow to Edinburgh, or Central Falkirk including towns or cities in-between). Personalised quotes can be obtained by contacting us, should this be necessary.

  • Training can be at our Training Centre, which incurs no travel costs, but you and your dog must follow the terms and conditions set out in this document regarding attendance.

  • Cancellations – if you need to cancel a session, we can rearrange this to a suitable time given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice. Less than 48 hours’ notice to delay a session and you may still be charged for the appointment, Pawsitive Pups Dog Training may consider true emergencies on a case-by-case basis and reschedule without charge.

Seminars

  • As seminars often book up quickly, we can only secure your spot once full payment has been received through our website, or via bank transfer.

  • You will receive an email confirmation including date and time of the seminar, if you provide us with a valid email address.

  • Workshop spaces are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend, you have the option to sell your space to another participant.

  • Deposits may be required for certain events, and these deposits are non-refundable.

  • If an event needs to be cancelled, a refund or credit will be provided.

  • In the event of adverse weather conditions leading to cancellation, we reserve the right to deduct costs related to venue and trainer expenses from the payment.

Cancellation or Rearrangement of a Session

  • We reserve the right to cancel training sessions (group classes, individual training, seminars and workshops) at our discretion. It is infrequent but if Pawsitive Pups Dog Training need to reschedule a session, such as in an emergency or due to adverse weather conditions including extreme heat, you will be offered a replacement date.

    • This will be a day suitable to you for individual training.

    • For group classes a replacement date will be discussed. Up to two replacement sessions will be offered to accommodate all clients.

Illness and Injury

  • Bitches actively in heat (bleeding), are not allowed to attend the training centre.  This is because:

    • It is unfair and distracting to other dogs.

    • She will also be less likely to cope with training during this period.

    • Home visits can continue as normal, but the session may be limited in the best interests of the dog.

  • This also goes for sick or injured dogs, including dogs who have been in contact with infectious diseases including Kennel Cough and Parvovirus.

  • If you are unsure if your dog should attend please talk to your vet and/or us.

  • We can rearrange any individual training to suit but if you are in group classes your dog may unfortunately miss classes due to this. You can still attend without your dog to maintain continuity of training. Replacement classes cannot be offered unfortunately as classes are limited to a maximum number of dogs per class, and a maximum number of classes per block.

Disclaimer

  • We will not take responsibility for misinterpretation of advice. Dogs are living beings, and external factors influence behaviours. We cannot guarantee our training advice will be successful without controlling all of these other factors.

  • For behavioural problems a veterinary behaviour consultation is recommended to work to alter dangerous and stressful behaviours. Animal aggression can cause injury, including fatalities. Treatment for aggression is not a guarantee of success and modifying behaviour does not assure the aggression will be successfully controlled. It is your responsibility to ensure safety of people and other animals with regards to your pet. Safety precautions will be advised and may include; limited access to people/animals, being kept on lead, wearing a muzzle, use of gates around the home and other behavioural modification management strategies. We cannot take responsibility for behaviour of your dog outside of training sessions with us.

  • We strongly recommend all dog guardians have pet insurance including third party liability cover.

Training methodology

  • Only force-free, science-based methods, following the ethos of positive reinforcement, will be used during training.

  • No aversive-by-design training methods will be allowed including, but not limited to, the use of:

    • choke chains

    • half chokes

    • electric collars

    • spray collars

    • slip leads

    • tightening harnesses to deliberately restrict movement

    • head collars

    • prong collars

    • pet corrector sprays/bottles etc.

    • Any method that may cause pain, fear or intimidation to the dog.

  • Failure to comply may result in Pawsitive Pups Dog Training cancelling remaining sessions, without refund as this may result in an increased risk of failure of the program and worsening of the dogs’ behaviour (including the possibility of new unwanted behaviours, by way of ‘fall-out’ from the aversive methods)

  • We also strongly recommend you do not use these methods when not training with us.
